ActiveRecord::Base#compute_type is slow

I've created a profile like so:
./script/performance/profiler 'Article.find(:all)' 10 graph
and it turns out of the 0.88 seconds total, 0.22 is spent in compute_type. Most of this time is again spent in store_full_sti_class, a simple boolean flag accessor.
Perhaps store_full_sti_class can be made into a cattr_accessor, rather than a superclass_delegating_accessor, to avoid the time consuming call to respond_to? and hence ActiveRecord::DynamicFinderMatch#initialize.
The rails application is typo (http://wiki.github.com/fdv/typo), using rails 2.2.2.
