calculations for stddev will always return a float value
Reported by aka47 | October 27th, 2008 @ 12:50 PM | in 3.x
In 99% of all standard deviation calculations you want the return value to be a float value, until now it depends on the value of the column you calculate the Standard deviation for. The standard deviation of a integer field will be an integer as well.
I changed it so it will always be a float, also for stddev_pop and stddev_samp
I also added it to the documentation

Looks good. I wonder how many DBs support stddev ? If it works on mysql/postgres/sqlite, I'd be happy to commit.
Thanks.
