update 2.1 with the new truncate method to ease upgrade

Reported by gaffo | November 4th, 2008 @ 02:16 AM | in 2.x

The new truncate method in edge issues a "DEPRECATION WARNING: truncate takes an option hash instead of separate length and omission argument" which is nice. However, for those of us trying to work both edge and stable, we have no way to get rid of this warning. It would be nice to have the new truncate (with the options) pulled into 2.1 so that I can switch my calls over without breaking one or the other.
