ActionController::Request#content_charset always fails

I am trying to log the charset of the request. But it always fails:
NoMethodError (private methodsplit' called for #<Mime::Type:0x7f13fda04e08>):

This is because the method Rack::Request#content_type is overriden in ActionController::Request, therefore Rack::Request#content_charset always fails.
