Add :delegating option to belongs_to and has_one assoc macro
Reported by Evgeniy Dolzhenko | June 7th, 2010 @ 06:12 PM
Working on a few projects I noticed that the targets for
delegate
in my models
are usually other associations.
Just for kicks I tried to confirm that assumption
statistically.
Here is what I came up with
Results present the code samples found on GitHub and basically
say that
I'm not alone in that league and more than 80% of use cases of
delegate
inside models is delegating to
association.
Attached patch makes it possible to write
class Invoice < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :client, :delegating => [ :street, :city, :name ]
end
instead of
class Invoice < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :client
delegate :street, :city, :name, :to => :client
end

+1, this seems like a really useful addition. I've had this same style of code littering my models for too long. =]
