String Enumerator in an ERB template outputs the string

Reported by Lars Kuhnt | August 18th, 2010 @ 11:25 AM

Hi,

when you iterate over an Enumerator created on a String in an ERB template, the string will be rendered in the view.

For example:

    <% "You shouldnt see me!".each_char do |c| %><% end %>

or

    <% "You shouldnt see me!".each_byte do |b| %><% end %>

prints "You shouldnt see me!" in the view.

I worked around this issue by calling #to_a and #each on the Enumerator, i.e.:

    <% "You shouldnt see me!".each_char.to_a.each do |c| %><% end %>

I provided a diff with a failing test to demonstrate the issue.

Regards
Lars

Well, this is not a bug if you are using rails3. http://github.com/rails/rails/blob/master/actionpack/lib/action_vie...
That is why string was not rendered when you called to_a on it.
