layout does not show

ROR 3.0.3
when I change view path with prepend_view_path ::Rails.root.to_s+"/app/applications/simple-application/views" in my ActionController, template is rendered without any layout.
I tried copy layouts directory to a given folder.
I also tried to set layout to "application".
But no success.

There is also another problem:

Layout definition in controller cannot take file name with absolute file path or it does not work at all(it renders without layout):
class ApplicationTemplate < ApplicationController
layout :layout => "/home/marko/rubyRails/wmq/app/applications/simple_application/views/layouts/application.html" ....

But layout in render method can take file name with absolute path.
