    Rails --dev and --edge should bundle install to vendor, not home or system gems.

    This prevents altering system gems with possible buggy versions during testing ...

    Right, but checking to make sure things like String or Module aren't used would be a good start.

    I've attached a patch +tests to do this.

    It might be worth adding a check to see if the constant is already defined in the current app, i.e.

    raise "Already used" if defined?(APP_NAME)

    So it looks like a more serious issue as well:

    Bundler.require will always load the wrong environment unless RAILS_ENV is used

    +1 Mongrel should be preferred over thin, and then webrick
