[PATCH] add :root option to ActiveModel JSON serialization

Reported by James MacAulay | April 9th, 2010 @ 06:50 PM

Currently there is no way to specify a custom root key for JSON encoding of ActiveModel/ActiveRecord objects.

This patch allows a :root option in calls to encode_json (and therefore to_json) which basically acts like the same option in to_xml. It will also override the class attribute @include_root_in_json@: if a value for :root is present, it will be used even if include_root_in_json is false; and if you pass @:root => false@, no root key will be used even if include_root_in_json is true.

Patch includes tests and documentation. Applies cleanly to edge (specifically: 5f808b8 "Consistently use lowercase instead of camelCase for all JS class names in Rails").
