Suggestion for an Official Ruby on Rails Visual Editor
Reported by danielspencer | November 16th, 2008 @ 04:28 AM | in 2.x
The ruby on rails team should release an official Visual Ruby on Rails editor for Windows XP/Vista. By "visual" i mean people who do not know any Ruby on Rails code can visually create a Ruby on Rails site using visual tools.
So for example, a person loads the Visual Ruby on Rails editor and starts with a blank page. They want to create a menu(eg.has the buttons Home, biography, videos etc) for the top of the page, so they click on the "menu" button and the menu is generated and is shown visually at the top of their page. They then want to create a video gallery so they click on the 'video gallery' button and a video gallery is displayed on their 'videos' page and they can choose the settings to make their admin password so they can upload videos. They then want to put a website visitor counter on their page, so they click on "visitor counter" and it appears on their page and they can drag and drop this anywhere on the page and they can change the colors, fonts, design etc.
There can be lots of other features too like signon boxes, registration boxes, file uploaders, blog, wiki, forum, musician's website, youtube video sharing type site, business website, page columns, link exchange, sell ads on their site, slideshows, background photos and music, chat room, secure shopping cart etc.
Users could also submit their features that the Ruby on Rails team can add into the software. User submitted features should not need a linkback or things like that. The software would automatically check for updates every month and download them. The software would also have to support HTML,CSS,and Mysql.Once a person finishes making their Ruby on Rails site there should be an ftp upload feature that uploads their site to the correct directories on their web server.
Ruby on Rails code would still be able to be edited manually, but by having an official Visual Ruby on Rails editor means it would be easy to use and beginners could use it too.
