[PATCH] Make rails console load ~/.railsrc and RAILS_ROOT/.railsrc
Reported by Michael Schuerig | June 24th, 2010 @ 08:24 PM
Here's tiny patch that makes rails console load ~/.railsrc and RAILS_ROOT/.railsrc.
I find it useful to define general and project specific utility methods for use on the console.
For instance, I have a (probably far from perfect) method editing an object as YAML in a text editor (KDE kate, in this case):
def edit(obj)
ar = obj.kind_of?(ActiveRecord::Base)
Tempfile.open('edit-object') do |f|
yaml = ar ? obj.attributes.to_yaml : obj.to_yaml
f.puts(yaml)
f.close;
system "kate '#{f.path}' 2> /dev/null"
f.open
changed = YAML.load_file(f.path)
if ar
obj.attributes = changed
nil
elsif obj.respond_to?(:replace)
obj.replace(changed)
nil
else
changed
end
end
end
