Yes, haven't repro'd this with latest rails, but I think the original issue only occurred once you tried to set any kind of conditions on the relation, it's not...

It would appear that AR is generating incorrect SQL for a :through relationship if the middle relationship is a "belongs_to"

It's not really clear from the code...
