This happens when rails is frozen using the 2-3-stable. The gems management system has all sorts of bugs on that branch, it's unusable right now.

state:invalid
Well, forget about it. My RubyGems installation just "melted" and gone crazy, had to clean it up and reinstall everything to stop the errors.
