Fresh Rails 3 app cannot run performance tests

Reported by MikZ | September 28th, 2010 @ 11:54 AM

I've created fresh rails3 app to benchmark my development and production environents. But unfortunately I've run into this issue:

Loaded suite /Users/mikz/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0@testenv/gems/rake-0.8.7/lib/rake/rake_test_loader
Started
/Users/mikz/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0@testenv/gems/activesupport-3.0.0/lib/active_support/testing/performance.rb:39:in `run': uninitialized constant BrowsingTest::STARTED (NameError)

Steps to reproduce:

rvm 1.9.2@benchmark
gem install rails bundler
rails benchmark
cd benchmark
echo "gem 'ruby-prof', '0.9.2'" >> Gemfile
bundle install
rake db:schema:dump
rake test:benchmark

but works with 1.8.7

rvm 1.8.7@benchmark
gem install bundler
bundle install
rake test:benchmark

OS: Mac OS X 10.6.4
Ruby 1.9.2-p0
Ruby 1.8.7-p302
tested with ruby-prof 0.9.2, 0.9.1, 0.9.0, 0.8.2

Confirmed on OS X with Ruby 1.9.2, Rails 3.0.0, and the latest ruby-prof. Could this have to with ruby-prof not being 1.9 compatible? Also, the test:benchmark Rake task runs successfully without ruby-prof. How come adding it makes it fail?

Marking this incomplete for now. Please provide a patch (https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994/sending-patches) with a failing test/fix if possible.

I believe this is a minitest (default in ruby 1.9) problem. If you install minitest and minitest_tu_shim in ruby 1.8, you have the same issue.

I can confirm this on linux ubuntu 10.04 with ruby 1.9.2dev (2010-07-11 revision 28618) [i686-linux] and the latest ruby-prof.

This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not been commented on for at least three months.

The resources of the Rails core team are limited, and so we are asking for your help. If you can still reproduce this error on the 3-0-stable branch or on master, please reply with all of the information you have about it and add "[state:open]" to your comment. This will reopen the ticket for review. Likewise, if you feel that this is a very important feature for Rails to include, please reply with your explanation so we can consider it.

Thank you for all your contributions, and we hope you will understand this step to focus our efforts where they are most helpful.
