Review/reopen Ticket #9 and #10 please

Could somebody please review/reopen tickets #9 Adding records to a has_many collection does not work on initialization and #10 Immediate flash values not accessible in tests please? They have patches with fix and tests attached, but I think nobody noticed because the patches were attached after the tickets were closed.
