related to this, it seems the following fix is also needed in partials.rb if using a block with the layout
```
def render_partial(object = @object)
  locals, view,...
```

OK. I think the fix for this is changing
actionpack-3.00\lib\action_view\render\partials.rb
from:
```
  def render
    identifier = ((@template = find_template) ? ...
```

Isn't this because actionpack-3.0.0\lib\action_view\render\rendering.rb is:
```
def render(options = {}, locals = {}, &block)
  case options
  when Hash

Just hit exact same bug in Rails 3.0.0

Layout for parent partial is ignored if the partial contains a nested partial.
