    i am facing the similar problem too.
    adding 'gem "ruby-debug"' to Gemfile gives me an error like this

    working on Rails 2.1.0, i did same

    and got response.content_type as "application/json" for Rails 2.1

    Then i added rails as a submodule in that app by doing

    1. git init

    2. git submodule add git://github.com/rails/rails.git vendor/rails
