named routes seem not to work with :format

Hi there,
I've got a route named map.root :controller => 'pages', :action => 'home'
With 2.2, I was able to render it without a format and with format = xml. Thats no longer working though. (Completed in 75ms (View: 1, DB: 27) | 406 Not Acceptable [...])
